Hurricane Beryl
§ Hurricane Beryl grew to an “extremely dangerous” Category 4
hurricane set to cause massive damage across the Caribbean’s
Windward Islands, which form part of the West Indies and comprise
Barbados, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.
• A hurricane is a powerful and destructive tropical storm
characterized by strong winds, heavy rainfall, and low atmospheric
pressure.
• Hurricanes are also known as cyclones or typhoons in different
parts of the world• In the Atlantic Ocean and eastern North Pacific, they are called
hurricanes, while in the
northwestern Pacific, they are referred to
as typhoons, and in the
South Pacific and Indian Ocean, they are
known as cyclones.

What Is Snowblind Malware?
• A new banking malware called ‘Snowblind’ is targeting
Android users to steal banking credentials.
• Snowblind is made to get banking login information, and make
deals without permission.
• They are spread through other platforms or phishing.
• Snowblind is mostly active in Southeast Asia.
• Unlike most Android malware, Snowblind exploits a feature of Linux
kernel and the Android operating system called ‘seccomp’, which
stands for ‘secure computing’ - used to check applications for signs
of tampering.
• Snowblind injects a piece of code that loads before seccomp
initialises the anti-tampering measures.
• Snowblind can also disable biometric and two-factor
authentication, two security features commonly used by banking
apps to thwart unauthorised access.

INS Shivalik Joins 29th RIMPAC Exercise In Hawaii/
• The Indian Navy has joined the world's largest naval military
wargame Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) in Hawaii.
• 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, over 150 aircraft and
more than 25,000 personnel participated
• The Indian Navy has deployed frontline warship INS Shivalik for the
RIMPAC.
• The theme of RIMPAC 2024 is "Partners: Integrated and Prepared”.
• The harbour phase of the exercise is taking place from June 27 to July
7.
• The RIMPAC exercise will run till August 1.

involving the US, Australia, and Canada.
• However, starting in 1974, the maritime exercise transitioned to a
biennial event.
• About: INS ‘Shivalik’ is India’s first stealth frigate in the Shivalik

• It is built at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL),Mumbai.
• It was commissioned into the Indian Navy on April 29, 2010.
• Features: Pioneering the use of the CODOG (COmbined Diesel Or
Gas) propulsion system, it marks a first for the Indian Navy.
Rare moth endemic to Western Ghats ‘rediscovered’ in
Nilgiris after 132 years
• Chiretolpis erubescens, a rare moth endemic
to the Western Ghats recorded to have
inhabited the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve
(NBR).
• The species, which was “rediscovered” after
132 years.
•it was first recorded by British entomologist
George Francis Hampton in 1891.
Frank Duckworth, co-inventor of Duckworth-Lewis-Stern
(DLS) method, passed away
• His formula is used to determine
results in rain-curtailed cricket
matches.
• The method was first used in
international cricket in 1997 and was
formally adopted by the ICC as the
standard method for setting revised
targets in truncated games in 2001.
• The Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method is a
formula used in cricket to calculate a fair
target for the second team's innings
when a match is interrupted by bad
weather or other stoppages.
